The 2 Keys to Self Love

We live in a world of getting everything that we want handed to us on a silver platter RIGHT NOW.

We get replies via e-mail, text and Facebook RIGHT NOW.

We can find the answer to any question on Google RIGHT NOW.

We can even receive pretty much any damn item we want IN 2 DAYS. (Oh I love me some Amazon Prime.)

So, of course, when we are doing any sort of self work we expect any answers, replies, results, and items RIGHT NOW.

Of all of the many things that irritate me, not getting what I want RIGHT NOW really chaps my butt.

Especially in the area of self love.

Yes I am a millennial so have some compassion for me.

In the last 10 years, since my meltdown where I finally decided that it was time to love myself (that you can read all about HERE: my most popular blog by the way) I have been taking slow and deliberate action steps into taking back my self love trophy.

First it was the weight. While the weight loss journey was difficult at times, it didn’t pale in comparison to the emotional baggage that needed to be dealt with.

Oh….the emotional baggage.

When I work with clients in both my Integrative Health Coaching Program and Reiki Sessions I explain to them that this emotional baggage is really a big, stinky old onion. All of the stench and BS is contained within that big, stinky old onion. And when we take the first layer off, all of the BS and stench escapes and reveals the next layer. When we take off the next layer the same thing happens, and so on and so forth.

Some people have bigger and stinkier onions than others.

I swear I was dealt the State Fair Champion Stinky, Old Ass Onion.

But the key to getting this stinky old onion into something as appetizing and amazing as a fresh, blooming onion are 2 things:

  • Consistency in taking action
  • Patience

“Really April, that’s all the hope you’ve got for me today?”

YUP.

I’ve been working away on my State Fair Champion Onion Stinky, Old Ass Onion and sometimes I get so frustrated! Something will come up that I was 100% sure that I had dealt with and yet something still stinks. But I know deep down that it’s a process. The process and the timing in between is all a part of my journey and all a part of my schooling called life. I also have to remind myself to not compare my onion to anybody else’s. We all have different onions for different reasons and that’s totally okay. We are all on different journeys.

Despite this frustration, it is so important for us to consistently take action if we want to see any sort of results in the long term. While it’s so much easier to buy a “fix everything” health product, or buy a new purse every month to pacify that stinky old ass onion, CONSISTENTLY TAKING ACTION and being PATIENT for the results is the keys to the kingdom in loving yourself, and really any other thing that you want to achieve in your life.

That “fix everything” health product will never compensate for your poor eating habits. That new purse will get soon get old and worn too. (Although I love me new purses too.)I have a #LoveThySelf Series of kick ass events coming up that are going to give you the tools and insight on how to take your self love trophy back. Be sure to check them all out HERE!Here’s a quote for you today:

“The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not smashing it.” -Arnold Glasgow

Don’t smash those eggs. 🙂

Have a happy, healthy day!
